Garbage & Recycling

Refuse & Recycling Information

Town & Country Sanitation is the contracted disposal company for the Village of Blue Mounds garbage and recycling.  Town & Country’s phone number is 1-800-626-1915.

COLLECTION TIMES AND SETTING OUT REFUSE AND RECYCLING

Collections will be made weekly on the designated collection day between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.  Trash and recyclables are to be set to the curb before 7:00 a.m. on the designated removal day.  The Village of Blue Mounds recommends garbage/recycling shall be placed for collection at curbside no sooner than the evening before the scheduled collection day.  Containers should be set at the edge of the curb on the grass and not in the street.  All items not meeting the proper criteria for curbside refuse disposal and recycling will be tagged and left at the curb.

REFUSE CONTAINER SIZE AND AMOUNT

The Village contract with Town & Country Sanitation give each customer two 95 gallon toters one for trash and one for recycling.  All recycling can be co-mingled and placed in the yellow topped toter.  All items not meeting the proper criteria will be tagged and left at the curb and require the resident/property owner to dispose of these items properly.

BLUE MOUNDS COMPOST

The Village’s compost pile is located at 10961 County ID behind the smaller building on left side. Click here for information on items that can be composted. Please NO FOOD SCRAPS and absolutely no nails or other non-compostable items.

BRUSH COLLECTION

The Village has a chipper that can handle branches and brush. It is collected bi-weekly on Thursdays, starting in May.  If you would like to keep the chips, contact Public Works.

ANNUAL VILLAGE WIDE CLEAN UP – Coming this spring!

Each year on the first Saturday of May, the Village provides a clean up day for everyone to drop off unwanted items that are not accepted as “regular” garbage.

HOLIDAY SCHEDULE

When the garbage/recycling collection day falls on a holiday, the collection will be on the following day unless otherwise noted.

PAINT:  Latex paint cans must be empty, or the remaining paint must be dry with lid removed.  To dry latex paints and water based paints, leave the lid off and allow to dry, or add kitty litter to paint to speed up the drying process.  Once dry, the latex paint cans may then be thrown in the regular trash or left at the curb on the regular collection day.

Latex paint, if greater than 1/2 full can be taken to Clean Sweep to allow others to use the leftover paint.  Paint cans with oil and enamel based paint must be taken to the Clean Sweep Collection Facility  whose link is available by clicking on the Dane County Programs link at the bottom of this page.

HAZARDOUS MATERIAL

Hazardous materials will not be removed by Town & Country Sanitation and should not be set out with your regular garbage.

Fluorescent Lamps and Incandescent Bulbs

Waste lamps and incandescent bulbs are regulated as hazardous wastes because they contain toxic heavy metals.  If these lamps are burned or thrown into landfills, the mercury and lead in them can be released into the environment, where contamination problems can occur. For information on fluorescent lamps and incandescent bulbs click on the link to Dane County.

Medical Sharps & Syringes

Sharps are not allowed to be disposed with refuse or recyclable materials.  These items must be disposed of by returning them to a medical facility or pharmacy that accepts these materials.  The American Diabetes Association can be contacted to find a registered collection site at 1-800-342-2383.

Pesticides and other Chemicals

All hazardous material such as pesticides and chemicals must be taken to Clean Sweep of Madison Collection Facility.

Animal Waste

To properly dispose of animal waste, please contact your local pet store for a kit to bury the animal waste in your back yard which allows it to decompose naturally.
